Conditions for learning from animations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Animated diagrams representing dynamic systems hold great potential for improving the way people learn. However, so far the literature failed to find clear benefits of animated diagrams. Consequently it is worthwhile to investigate conditions under which enhancement of learning occurs. In the present study interactivity of the display and spatial ability of learners were examined. Three modes of presentation were compared: static diagrams, animation with interactivity, and animation with focus, also combined with interactivity. The interactive animation condition with focus acquired more knowledge than the other two conditions while the interactive animation condition scored worst. High-spatial ability subjects performed better on the knowledge acquisition measures than low-ability subjects. The interactive animation condition with focus is particularly beneficial for lowspatial ability subjects. These results indicate that combining the conditions of interactivity and focus does lead to improvement in learning from animations, particularly for low-spatial ability subjects.

متن کاملIntroducing Chinese Characters to Beginners Through the Use of Embodied Animations
Chinese has become one of the most popular foreign languages in K-12 classrooms and colleges in the US. However, it is considered hard-to-learn due to its difficult characters. We created the computer-based Chinese character learning (CCL) program using the embodied animations (EA), which are the animations that contain bodily movements or gestures in videos. The empirical study investigated wh...

In other words, in most cases dubbers attempt to adopt domestication procedures to make the language of animations easier and more tangible for children. The domestication strategies may bring both ...

The present study examined how students’ working memory capacity influences learning from animations with or without guidance. We tested three different conditions: visual guidance, instructional guidance, and no guidance. The results show that especially visual guidance was perceived as being helpful for making references between narration and display of an animation. However, students without...
